Spoiler Alert ~ yarn club photo at the bottom of this post!
So, the Olympics came and went so quickly! I love the Olympics, winter especially, and watching this year made all of us really want to go to Vancouver. It looks so spectacularly beautiful, and fun.
Although I have to admit that I was really unhappy with NBC's coverage of the Olympics, it was a real downside to watching them. I got so sick of watching the announcers talk to each other, and thought the coverage was really not well-rounded at all ~ like, seriously, why couldn't curling be on prime time at all? why only on MSNBC? (we get MSNBC, so it was really beside the point for us, but I'd like to see curling get more exposure and more serious attention). And why was skeleton only on late at night (or during the day, when we couldn't watch)?
And all those side stories ~ did I really need to see Karen whatever-her-name-is pretending to be a Canadian Mountie, or hanging out with the loggers? No, I did not (boy, do I sound like a grumpy old woman. But really, show me the competition!).
Anyway. I hope they do a better job next time around, but I'm not holding my breath.
During the Olympics, I finished my Porom tam, as expected. I got totally sidetracked on the cormo/silk spinning and started a sweater. I'm happy to say that I'm almost finished with the body and, since I never expected to finish it during the Olympics, I'm quite happy with the progress I made and am hoping to finish it in the next week or two.
Here it is:
This yarn is so nice. It doesn't look like anything so special in the skein or even in the ball, but when it starts sliding through your fingers and onto the needles, it blooms so beautifully. This sweater is incredibly soft, with a lovely halo.
Here is a close up of the front cables (I love the unsymmetrical symmetry of this pattern):And I love knitting from the top down, because I get to try it on (although with this sweater, it is REALLY hard to take it off it's SO comfortable).
And for the spoiler, this is what is being sent out to yarn club members tomorrow:From left to right: Earth, Fire, Air, Water (which is a little more gray-blue than this photo shows), Spirit. For this yarn, I decided to go more semi-solidish / softly variegated on the colors, rather than very variegated, so it will work with any number of patterns. It's 4 ply, DK weight 100% cashmere, 200 yards per skein. One skein for the regular club, and two skeins for the supersized club.
Off to knit on my sweater!
